BIG LOU'S PIZZA

OUR STORY

Since 2000, Big Lou’s Pizza has been a staple in the San Antonio community. Located in the city’s Southeast side, we serve some of the largest pies in the country, one coming in at a whopping 42-inches! Fresh ingredients, fresh vegetables and sauces made in house, we aim to keep the customers satisfied.

Not only are they large, but they are award winning, great tasting pizzas which we serve alongside our wings, calzones, wraps, salads and sandwiches.Born and raised on the city's southside, owner Brian Lujan and his mother Judith found a location on South WW White Road and began trying their hand at pizza making. Why pizza? One of Brian's favorite foods was pizza and pizza delivery being so popular, it was a favorite for dinner. However, as someone who ordered pizza regularly, he felt the pizza wasn't consistent and the customer service was lacking. He wanted to try his hand at conceiving delicious pies and thought at the very least he could provide better customer service. What he and his mother created was bigger, better, bolder and packed with flavor. On May 19, 2000, we officially opened to an overwhelming customer response, with a restaurant full of people and continuous long lines to boot. Brian's dad, affectionately known as "Pops", was also a critical contributor, designing the 42", 37" and 20" pizza pans and original rectangular plates that the 12" - 15" pizza slices fit on. This work followed on the heels of Brian's brainchild to contact a Chicago pizza oven company to manufacture the largest pizza oven available. The result, well, you get the picture! Since then, Brian's family has grown as has their involvement at Big Lou's..

Today, Brian's family has grown to six and they along with many of his extended family work here too. Big Lou's is not just a restaurant, it's a place where memories are made. Many customers come to celebrates birthdays, good grades, special occasions, team wins, or just to have a fun night out with friends.Since 2002, we've won critical acclaim for our pizza and wings, as well as being named the best all-around neighborhood pizza joint and recognized by publications such as, the San Antonio Express News, The Current, San Antonio Magazine, CultureMap, Eater, Taste of Home and Narcity to name a few.We have also been featured on Food Network's Man VS Food, the Travel Channel's Food Paradise and KSAT's Elder Eats.WE LIKE TO DO THINGS BIG - OBVIOUSLY!So in addition to our BIG PIZZAS, we have a BIG HEART and like to give back to the community. In 2013 we began working with the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center to begin an annual Blood Drive when Brian's father became ill and needed blood transfusions. Since its inception in 2013, what started as an effort to support Pops, is now held in his honor and as of 2020 collected almost 3000 units of blood and impacted over 8500 people. This is something we do for the community and those who need support like Pops did.
